Cleaning Burner Grates and Caps - Gas Range

How to clean burner grates and caps:

Food spills containing acids like vinegar and tomato should be cleaned when the cooktop, grates, and caps are cool.  These spills may affect the finish. Do not bang grates and caps against each other or hard surfaces such as cast iron cookware to avoid chipping.

Do not reinstall caps on burners while wet.

Cleaning method:

  • Hand wash: To clean the burner caps and grates, use a mild abrasive cleaner, nonabrasive scrubbing, and warm water.
  • Dishwasher: Some grates may be washed in the dishwasher.  Use the most aggressive cycle.  Cooked/burned on soils on grates should be soaked or scrubbed before being placed in the dishwasher. Refer to your Owner's Manual to verify if grates can be washed in the dishwasher.

Reminders: Only clean when the grate and caps are cool to the touch. Do not clean the burner caps of grates in the oven during a self-cleaning cycle. Burner caps are not dishwasher safe.

Reinstall the Burner Caps

Be sure the correct burner cap is on the correct burner base.  The burner base and underside of the burner cap may have a mark indicating which burner cap and burner base match.  When reinstalling the burner cap, ensure the alignment pins are correctly aligned. The cap should fit flush with the burner base and have very little side-to-side movement.
