Detergent Remains at End of Cycle - Portable Dishwasher

Possible Solutions

Are the dishes dirty?

  • The water supply valve must be turned on for the dishwasher to fill, wash, and dissolve the detergent.
  • Refer to the "Wash Performance" section of this troubleshooter.

Is there detergent remaining or caked up in the Dispenser?

Here are a few things to check if you notice detergent remaining in the detergent dispenser of your dishwasher at the end of the cycle. This is applicable for both powder detergent and detergent packs (pods):

  • Clean the dispenser when caked detergent is present.
  • Older detergent exposed to air will clump and not dissolve well, which will cause the dispenser door to stick to the detergent.
  • Replace detergent if necessary and store the detergent in a tightly closed container in a cool dry place.

Are you using packets?

Detergent packets usually dissolve more easily and should be placed in the dispenser the same as powdered or gel.

  • If they are not dissolving, verify water temperature, and run the hot water in the sink closest to the dishwasher.

Is the Upper Rack in the Lowest Position?

  • Sometimes it is possible the upper rack can block the detergent dispenser from opening completely when in the lowest position.
  • Move the upper rack up to a higher position to unblock the detergent dispenser.

Is the dispenser door blocked by dishes or cookware when the dishwasher door is closed?

Use one of the possible solutions below or combined to unblock the dispenser door:

  • Remove the dishes or cookware that blocks the dispenser door.
  • DO NOT overload the dishwasher.
  • Position the lower rack to not block the dispenser door.

Was a short cycle used, "rinse only?"

  • This is NOT a full cleaning cycle where detergent should be used.
  • This cycle is used for rinsing with water only.
  • "Rinse only" is a short cycle that should be run WITHOUT detergent.

Is the detergent lump-free?

  • Replace detergent if necessary. Keep it in a cool dry place.
