If your Whirlpool dishwasher becomes unresponsive, stalls during a cycle, or shows unexpected indicator lights, a quick control reset—often called cycling power—can frequently restore normal operation. Steps to Reset Your Dishwasher Controls
Resetting the dishwasher’s controls (cycle power) can clear many transient errors and help restore normal operation.
General cycle power reset steps:
- Cancel the current cycle (if active) by pressing Cancel/Drain, then allow the pump to finish its drain process.
- Disconnect the power by unplugging it from the wall outlet. If the plug is inaccessible, switch the dedicated household circuit breaker to Off.
- Wait at least 1 minute for the control to fully power down.
- Restore power by plugging the unit back in or turning the breaker On.
- Close the door firmly, select a cycle and options, then press Start.
- If the concern returns, contact Whirlpool Customer Care or an authorized Factory Certified Care Technician.
Is the Control Lock On?
If your dishwasher appears to have no power, lights, or other functions, please verify that the Control Lock has not been activated. If the Control Lock is set, your control will not operate, and a red "Padlock" may be illuminated. Refer to the Owner's Manual for your dishwasher model to learn how to deactivate the Control Lock.
