The Inlet Grille inside the Dryer is Discolored

You may see some discoloration on the rear dryer grille where hot air enters the dryer. 

Why the Inlet Grille Discolors

Common causes include, which can be normal:

  • Heat staining from repeated high-temperature cycles, which can darken plastic or painted metal over time and make the dryer grate look discolored.
  • Color transfer from clothing, over time can discolor the grille. 
  • Lint buildup that traps heat and bakes onto surfaces, leaving yellow or brown patches on the dryer grate and surrounding areas.
  • Mineral deposits from humidity or damp laundry, appearing as white or chalky residue.
  • Rust on metal components when moisture is present, especially with poor ventilation.
