Not Draining - Top Load HE Washer

Possible Solutions

Is the Drain Hose Installed Correctly?

Verify that the drain hose is not too far down into the standpipe beyond the elbow which could cause siphoning, water to drain back into the tub or slow or no spin. The way the drain hose comes from the manufacturer is correct for standpipe or wash tub installation. The drain hose form SHOULD NOT be altered for standpipe or wash tub installation. Do not tape the drain hose to the drain pipe.

Is the Drain Hose too high?

Make sure that the drain hose does not extend more than 8" (20.3 cm) into the Standpipe (Drainpipe) or laundry tub (typically up). Using the U-shape drain hose form (as described in the Installation Instructions), will provide the correct length of drain hose in the drainpipe or laundry tub.

Do not tape the drain hose to the drain pipe.

Is the drain hose kinked or clogged?

Make sure the drain hose is not kinked or clogged.  Straighten the hose for adequate water flow.  Remove any blockage from the drainpipe or utility sink.

Do You Use High-Efficiency Detergent?

Use only HE High-Efficiency detergent. Always measure detergent. If you have very soft water, you may need to use less detergent. Using non-HE detergent or more than the manufacturer's recommended amount of detergent can cause excessive suds. The excess suds can cause the washer to run at a reduced spin speed, resulting in very wet loads.

Water Heard in Tub but NOT Seen in Tub:

Water heard in the washer but not seen when the tub is moved is from the balance ring in the washer. The balance ring is a fluid filled ring at the top of the tub.

As the load shifts during wash, the load may become more concentrated on one side of the basket. The fluid in the balance ring shifts to the opposite side of the load to help offset the weight of the load and keep the rotation of the basket stable.

If you move your washer, you may also hear the fluid inside the balance ring.

The balance ring keeps the load balanced and the basket running smooth which allows higher spin speeds.
