Leveling a Front Load Washer
How to Level your Whirlpool Front Load Washer
Leveling your front load washer is crucial for performance. An unlevel washer can lead to excessive vibrations, noise, and even damage over time. Proper leveling ensures your laundry comes out clean and your machine operates efficiently. Here are some common signs that your washer may need leveling:
- Excessive vibrations during operation
- Unusual noise while running
- Uneven laundry results
How to level your Whirlpool front load washer will depend on what type of installation application was used, with or without a pedestal. No matter how the washer is installed it is still critical the washer is properly leveled before operation.
Non-Pedestal Installation
Pedestal Installation
The pedestal feet should be installed, and all four feet should be in firm contact with the floor. Try to rock the washer diagonally, from corner to corner, with your hands; adjust the feet if the washer teeters. The lock nuts on all four feet should be tightened against the pedestal cabinet. See the Installation Instructions for details.
Tips for Maintaining a Level Washer
To maintain your front load washer’s performance and longevity, follow these best practices:
- Choose a solid, flat surface for your washer. A vibration that you can feel in the floor from across the room can be a sign of a flexing floor. Flooring that flexes or is uneven can contribute to washer noise and vibration. The noise and vibration may be reduced by placing and securing a piece of ¾" (19.1 mm) plywood to the floor beneath the washer and dryer. Refer to the Installation Instructions for flooring requirements. Modern washers have high spin speeds to extract more water from the load. These high-spin speed washers require sturdy floors.
- Adjust the feet to ensure all four corners are in firm contact with the ground. Use a level to ensure it is level from side to side and front to back.
- Regularly check the washer’s position or if you notice unusual vibrations.
- Avoid overloading your washer, as this can cause it to become unbalanced.
- Ensure the washer is not pushed against walls or other appliances, which can lead to movement and misalignment.
Regular maintenance checks can help identify potential issues early, ensuring your Whirlpool washer continues to operate smoothly.
