Using Powder, Liquid, or Single Dose Pod Detergent

Using Powder, Liquid, or Pod Detergent in your Whirlpool Washer

Which is better - Powder, Liquid, or Pod Detergent?

Liquid, Powder, or Pod detergent of washer

You may want to know which is better - liquid detergent, powdered detergent, or Pods?  This depends on the items being washed, as well as the water conditions in the home:

  • Powdered (sometimes called Granular) detergent generally removes stains like mud or clay better than liquids. They are also more effective in tying up elements such as iron or manganese in the water supply, which can cause rust stains.
  • Liquid detergents are generally better for cleaning greasy, oily stains better than powders. They are more convenient for pre-treating than powder. They also dissolve more easily in cooler water conditions.
  • Single Dose Laundry Packets (Pods) are a low sudsing HE detergent that delivers great cleaning, can prevent detergent overdose / oversudsing and are an easy, quick-to-use detergent. Always place them in the tub or basket of your washer. Never place them in detergent dispensers.

Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for detergent usage. Use only HE High Efficiency detergents in high-efficiency machines.

Which detergent should you use?

Whirlpool recommends using Swash™ Laundry Detergent. It is designed to work in both high-efficiency (HE) and non-HE washing machines. With an 8x concentrated formula, you’ll use about a quarter of the detergent you’d need with a traditional 2x concentration detergent. It may look like a small amount, but you’ll be amazed at its effectiveness.

The Smart Way to Wash

From our Precision Pour Cap to our ultra-concentrated formula, Swash® delivers the results you want in a compact, intelligent bottle design.
