Not Compacting - Trash Compactor

Possible Solutions

Is the drawer less than half full?

The drawer must be more than half full before trash begins compacting. The compactor ram stops 7 inches above the bottom of the drawer.

Is the latch latched?

An unlatched drawer can cause the drawer to disengage the drawer switch. Once the drawer switch disengages the compactor ram will return to the top unable to complete the cycle.

Open the drawer to ensure the latch is in the locked position by pressing down on the latch (pictured below). Close the drawer firmly and start the compactor.

Is the drawer completely closed?

Make sure the drawer is completely closed. Check for debris in the drawer tracks if the drawer will not close completely. A drawer not completely closed will cause the drawer switch to disengage. Once the drawer switch disengages the compactor ram will return to the top unable to complete the cycle.

Are bulky items loaded properly?

Load bulky items such as bottles and cans in the center of the drawer. An offset load could push on the drawer front causing the drawer switch to disengage. Once the drawer switch disengages the compactor ram will return to the top unable to complete the cycle.

Bottles not breaking?

Bottles will not break every time. The thickness of the bottle's glass and the content of the trash load below may keep the bottle from breaking.
