Freezer Lid is Sealing - Forming Frost - Chest Freezer

How to test the lid or lid seal: 

1. Place a dollar bill or a piece of paper between the seal and the freezer
2. Pull the paper out
3. Retest along the entire lid seal

You should feel the tension as you pull the dollar bill or piece of paper out. 

​If the dollar bill or paper pulls out very easily, with little to no tension, your lid may not be sealing correctly.

Has the lid been open for an extended time?

• Keeping the lid open for an extended period will allow excess moisture to enter the freezer, potentially creating frost. 
• Close the lid as soon as possible after the food is removed.
• Be aware that the freezer will warm when the lid is open for an extended time.

Is the lid often opened?

• This will allow excess moisture into the freezer, potentially creating frost.
• Try to get everything you need out of the freezer at once, keep food organized, so it is easy to find, and close the lid as soon as the food is removed.
• Be aware that the freezer will warm up when the lid is opened often

Does the freezer need to be defrosted?

Most freezers require manual defrosting and are not equipped with an automatic defrost cycle. Below are some recommendations on when to defrost the freezer. Refer to your Owner's Manual to determine if your freezer requires manual defrosting or is a frost-free model.

• Defrost and clean your freezer when the frost has built up to about 1/4" (6mm) thickness.
• Complete defrosting and cleaning should be done at least once a year.
• A freezer may need more frequent defrosting and cleaning in high-humidity areas.
