Cleaning the Exterior of the Refrigerator
How to clean your Whirlpool Refrigeration
Each type of exterior finish requires a different method of cleaning. Please see each finish type below for proper cleaning instructions. You can also reference your Owner's Manual for additional information.
Painted/Colored Refrigerator
- Wash the exterior enamel surfaces and gaskets with warm water and mild soap or detergent.
- Wipe and dry.
We recommend using a clean micro fiber cloth or a soft clean cloth to polish and dry. Using paper towels may scratch and/or dull the clear coat of the painted door. Regular use of a good household appliance cleaner and polish will help protect the finish.
Black Stainless Steel Refrigerator
IMPORTANT: To avoid damage to the finish, do not use soap-filled scouring pads, abrasive or harsh cleaners, any cleaning product containing chlorine bleach, steel-wool pads, gritty wash cloths or paper towels. Using these types of products may scratch and/or dull the clear coat of the black stainless steel door.

How to Clean the Gaskets
The gasket(s) needs to be cleaned in order for the lid or door to open and close properly. Dirt and other particles can build up on the gasket surface and can cause resistance. Check the gaskets regularly to ensure it is clean and free from food particles.
- Wash the gaskets with a clean sponge or soft cloth and mild detergent, in warm water.
- Rinse well and wipe dry with a clean, soft cloth
- Rub a thin coat of paraffin wax on the gasket following cleaning
