Exiting Demo or Showroom Mode on a Whirlpool Refrigerator

Demo mode (also called showroom mode) is a feature on the Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator that powers the display and lights while disabling cooling. Retailers use it to demonstrate controls without running the compressor. If your refrigerator lights up but does not get cold, it may be in demo mode. This guide explains what demo mode is and how to disable it.

Setting and Removing Demo Mode will vary by model number. Below, we have highlighted different methods, but refer to the Owner's Manual for specific instructions for your model.

What Demo Mode Does

Demo mode is intended for in-store display. It lets the control panel and interior lights operate so shoppers can explore features, but it prevents cooling to conserve energy and protect the sealed system when the appliance is not actively used.

When demo mode is active:

The refrigerator and freezer will not cool, even after changing the temperature settings.
The compressor and fans remain off or run in a limited way.
The display and interior lights work normally; some models may show “Demo,” “Showroom,” or “Shwrm.”
Temperatures do not drop after several hours, and you may hear little to no compressor noise.

How to Exit Demo Mode

The steps below apply to many Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerators. Button names can vary; if these steps do not match your control panel, refer to your owner’s manual for how to disable demo mode on your exact model.

Dispenser or Control Type	Directions for Entering or Exiting
	Press TEMP SETTING until you reach MAX. Hold door switch close to simulate door close. Press and hold TEMP SETTING for THREE seconds. The unit enters Showroom mode, and the UI performs “Showroom Animation."
	Turn the REFRIGERATOR control to the right so dial is pointed to 0 - OFF. Turn the FREEZER control to the left so the dial is pointed at 1. Cooling will turn off once the REFRIGERATOR dial is set to 0 - OFF.
	Hold the LIGHT and LOCK buttons down at the same time for THREE seconds. Once the control panel counts down from three seconds, the model will be in demo mode.
	Hold the FREEZER TEMP and REFRIGERATOR TEMP buttons down at the same time for FIVE seconds. Once temperature indicator lights blink sequentially, model is in demo mode. (Note: unplug, wait for two minutes, and plug model back in if it does not turn into demo mode upon first try.)
	Hold the LOCK and FILTER buttons down at the same time for THREE seconds. Once the control panel counts down from three seconds and COOLING off appears on the display screen, cooling will be off.
	Hold the LIGHT and POWER COLD buttons down at the same time for THREE seconds. Once control panel counts down from three seconds, model will be in demo mode.
	Hold the OPTIONS and WATER FILTER buttons down at the same time for THREE seconds. Once the control panel counts down from three seconds, the model will be in demo mode.
